Alaskans use firearms for target shooting, competitions, personal protection and protection from dangerous wildlife like bears. There are now a number of well developed ranges in the state, especially on the road system where user numbers are highest. Operated by the City of Wrangell Parks & Recreation Department There is also a 50' indoor shooting range that is located in the Public Safety Building (431 Zimovia Highway). During winter months the Parks and Recreation Department has open shooting for air rifles, .22 rifles and handguns two nights per week. UPCOMING .22 BULLSEYE PISTOL LEAGUE At 7 p.m. Friday, September 28th, there will be an organizational meeting for the next .22-caliber bullseye pistol league, at the range. A practice match will be held the following week. Registration for the league is open and there are still open slots on the league.
