Introduction
Kayaks have a long history in Alaska coastal regions. First known to be used by Alaska Aleuts and Eskimos, these versatile watercraft were transportion and hunting platforms for centuries before western contact. Today's sea kayaks use the same basic design innovated long ago, but with modern devices to make them even more maneuverable and seaworthy.
River and lake kayaks are also used on the inland waters of the state for their substantial maneuverability and ability to stay afloat in challenging conditions.
